Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Support for eliminating existing exemptions, except for medical reasons, from immunization laws

“Allowing exemptions based on non-medical reasons poses a risk both to the unvaccinated person and to public health,” said Wayne J. Riley, MD, MPH, MBA, MACP, president of ACP, “Intentionally unvaccinated individuals can pose a danger to the public, especially to individuals who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.”

The ACP Board of Regents said it supports the immunization of all children, adolescents, and adult

  • the immunization of all children, adolescents, and adults, according to the recommendations and standards established by the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • state laws designed to promote all recommended immunizations.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY

Stanford legal experts say that California’s controversial new vaccination law may serve as a model for other states at a time when vaccination rates are low by historical standards.

“The move represents a stunning victory for public health that affects not only California schoolchildren, but the prospects for strengthening vaccination requirements nationwide,” wrote Michelle Mello and David Studdert, professors in both Stanford’s law and medical schools, in a July 22 New England Journal of Medicine article. Their co-author was Wendy Parmet, a Northeastern University law school professor.

Challengers to the law may also argue that the vaccination law violates a child’s right to education – under the new law, children who do not receive the vaccinations are not allowed to attend school. Read more…

VLA Comment:  This Stanford piece apparently is meant to give the public health establishment state legislators a heads up on the different prongs they will be facing and how to handle them. It is informative for the anti vaccine and liberty movement to read what they are thinking.
