Induction of Autoimmune Diseases Following Vaccinations: A Review

Excerpt:  Many factors can be attributed to the non-effectiveness of vaccinations; mostly chronic diseases that interfere with the immune response to individuals such as diabetes, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), steroids use for autoimmune diseases or inflammatory diseases, and aging. It could also be due to genetic reasons if the host’s immune system includes no strains of B cell lymphocytes that can generate antibodies suited to reacting effectively and binding to the antigens associated with the pathogen which is an important step in fighting the infection and some other condition. Timing in the effectiveness of vaccines is very crucial as slow immunity will lead to a delayed response. Thus, antibodies will not perform their function of making the causative pathogen to be less virulent
