BREAKING NEWS: NY TIMES: TSA to Pre-Screen Air Travelers’ Tax Info, Property Records, Travel History
What does all of this have to do with “national security?” The New York Times writes that the “the agency says that the goal is to streamline the security procedures for millions of passengers who pose no risk.” The TSA released the documents detailing the depth of this screening, but has refused to comment publicly.
Apparently, the protection of the “homeland” is not the true purpose of the intrusion; rather it is to persuade travelers to register with the TSA’s “PreCheck” program. By enrolling in “PreCheck,” a person becomes a “trusted traveler.” In order to apply for “PreCheck,” a traveler must submit their biometric fingerprint for registration with an FBI database, submit to a criminal background check, and pay an $85 fee to the TSA for a five-year PreCheck membership. One story on “PreCheck” claims that the TSA may receive as much as $255 million from such fees in 2013. READ ARTICLES BELOW

NY Times: U.N., Fearing a Polio Epidemic in Syria, Moves to Vaccinate 10.5 Million Children
United Nations officials said Friday that they were mobilizing to vaccinate 2.5 million young children in Syria and more than eight million others in the region. The officials said that the discovery a few weeks ago of a cluster of paralyzed young children in Deir al-Zour.

The polio vaccine contain a synthetic polio virus and not the wild polio virus found in nature. In 2011 polio vaccine with its synthetic laboratory made virus was the cause of 47,500 new cases of what they call non-polio acute flaccid paralysis NPAFP.

October 25, 2013 D.C. lawmakers took more than 15 years to allow cancer patients to use marijuana for their pain. But over just a few months, city leaders have coalesced around a plan to decriminalize small joints, blunts or bowls full of marijuana in the nation’s capital.
Ten of 13 council members have signed on to a bill to make possession of less than an ounce of marijuana punishable by a fine of no more than $100. On Wednesday, Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) said for the first time that he supports the idea. And on Thursday, the author of the bill and the office of the attorney general said they could agree to an even smaller, token fine of $25.
Such a move wouldn’t go as far as changes by Colorado and Washington state, where voters have legalized marijuana. Seventeen states also have eliminated jail time for possession in favor of civil finesof up to $1,000. If the bill passes, the District would rank behind only Alaska, which has no fine, as the most forgiving.

FDA Approves Investigational Trials Assessing Cannabidiol For Pediatric Epilepsy
Washington, DC: The US Food and Drug Administration has approved two clinical trials to assess the efficacy of cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive plant cannabinoid, in the treatment of intractable pediatric epilepsy. The two approved trials will take place at New York Medical School and at the University of California at San Francisco, according to an online report in the journal O’Shaughnessy’s. The cannabidiol formulations in the trials will be provided by British biotechnology firmGW Pharmaceuticals, which produces organic cannabinoid extract medicines, including Sativex.
