14 year old debates Monsanto shill on TV and wins!

First is the challenge in her school auditorium. (take a minute or two)

The rest is the TV show…fabulously articulate.

O’Leary kept on wanting her to admit that she was against “science” and therefore against saving hurt and starving children all over the world. The whole debate was great, however, when it came to science… and why Monsanto’s science shouldn’t have carte blanche on producing these foods is because GMO crops transfer genes to nature’s time honored organic crops, destroying there integrity. This would have been a good come back reason for “not allowing” science to proceed out of the lab or experimental stage.

MIRACLE GROW: Treated water results in larger, healthier crops, says Professor Austin Darragh of Limerick University

The technology – radio wave energised water – massively increases the output of vegetables and fruits by up to 30 per cent.

Not only are the plants much bigger but they are largely disease-resistant, meaning huge savings in expensive fertilisers and harmful pesticides.

Extensively tested in Ireland and several other countries, the inexpensive water treatment technology is now being rolled out across the world.

WHEAT: Modern Wheat Isn’t Really Wheat At All

Flickr-Wheat-philipn-300x199At some point in our history, this ancient grain was nutritious in some respects, however modern wheat isn’t really wheat at all.  Once agribusiness took over to develop a higher-yielding crop, wheat became hybridized to such an extent that it has been completely transformed from it’s prehistorical genetic configuration. All nutrient content of modern wheat depreciated more than 30% in its natural unrefined state compared to its ancestral genetic lineRead more…

bumble beeOregon Temporarily Restricts Pesticide Use Following Bee Deaths
State officials in Oregon are temporarily restricting the use of more than a dozen pesticide products following the deaths of an estimated 50,000 bumblebees in the Portland area this month.

The measure, effective immediately, will last for 180 days while the Oregon State Agricultural Department investigates incidents of a mass bee die-off in the Portland suburb of Wilsonville, and a much smaller die-off in neighboring Hillsboro.
Eighteen pesticide products containing the active ingredient dinotefuran and used for ornamental, turf and agricultural applications have been banned for now. Read more…

CONNECTICUTT & MAINE: Mandatory GMO labeling passes both houses (JUNE 1013)

sachs-thumb-300x199Connecticut’s mandatory labeling bill easily passed both the House and the Senate. Governor Dannel Malloy (D) has said he will also sign off on the bill.

However, while the state looks like it will be the first in the country to require labeling of GMOs, it does have stipulations that will take time to allow its passage. To actually go into effect, labeling initiatives must become law in four other states, including one bordering state. On top of that, the clause indicates that these states must include Northeast states with total populations of more than 20 million.  READ MORE…

GMO milk: rBGH marketing on the rise again having been sold to Ely LIlly by Monsanto

rBgh_milkThe fight over rbGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) continues, even under new ownership.

After acquiring rbGH from Monsanto, Elanco (part of Eli Lilly) has stepped up efforts to convince milk processors and the wider food industry that milk from rbGH-injected cows is safe. Central to their new campaign is a paper, commissioned through PR company Porter-Novelli, from eight prominent experts and academics in medicine and dairy science (Recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST): a safety assessment). Critics point out the false endorsements of the paper demanding clarification and adjustment.  One of the authors seems unconcerned with the flagrant falsity…saying.. “Its only a scientific paper”. Dr. Mercola: Parkinson Disease: Ecosystem and Food Supply Threatened by Gross Underestimate of Toxicity of Neonicotinoid Pesticides

badA single kernel of corn treated with this type of pesticide can kill a songbird.   In this latest analysis, exposure to pesticides was linked to a 58 percent increased risk of developing Parkinson’s. Some pesticides were clearly worse than others. Paraquat (a non-selective plant killer) and two fungicides, maneb and mancozeb, were found to double your risk.  READ MORE…
