EPA Approves Exemption for GMO Bt toxin in soy foods and feed & FDA & Ractopamine feed

Final rule Feb. 12, 2014: “In what could easily be classified as one of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) worst decisions yet, a final rule released by the EPA earlier this month creates an exemption for residue tolerance levels of genetically modified (GM) Bt toxin in GM soy foods and feed.1 Essentially, the Agency has approved unlimited residues of GM Bt toxin in your food!”

In 2011, doctors at Sherbrooke University Hospital in Quebec found Bt-toxin in the blood of:

  • 93 percent of pregnant women tested
  • 80 percent of umbilical blood in their babies
  • 67 percent of non-pregnant women

GM corn is present in the vast majority of all processed foods and drinks in the form of high fructose corn syrup, corn oil, and other corn products. They also suggested that the toxin may have come from eating meat from animals fed Bt corn, which most livestock raised in concentrated animal feeding operations. (CAFOS)

These shocking results also raise the frightening possibility that eating Bt corn might actually turn your intestinal flora into a sort of “living pesticide factory,” essentially manufacturing Bt toxin from within your digestive system on a continuing basis through the transference of the Bt-producing gene to your gut bacteria.  Read more…

VLA Comment:  In1999 the FDA approved the use of the drug Ractopamine in the feed of poultry, beef and swine.  Ractopamine is banned in over 160 countries.  So add that to the meat your are eating and the “natural” thyroid pill you are taking. Moreover, China purchased Smithfield, the USA’s largest swine producer.  Read more…

Taipei: Workers carry US beef with traces of ractopamine to a furnace in downtown Taipei yesterday. A total of 7,490kg of beef was destroyed. The Democratic Progressive Party ((DPP) reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on the controversial animal feed additive ractopamine with a statement and an amendment proposing that local governments be given more power to regulate food safety.

 

Monsanto’s Glyphosate (Round-Up) Linked to Kidney Disease Epidemic in Poor Farming Regions

Currently, chronic kidney disease is killing thousands in poor farming regions.  But this isn’t any ordinary kidney disease, as sufferers are developing the deadly condition without any ordinary risk factors. Applying what they knew about Compound X to an extensive search through the thousands of agrochemicals, they arrived at one possibility: glyphosate.

VLA subscriber comment: Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Monsanto’s poster-child Round Up. And it’s glyphosate that becomes even more extremely toxic when it mixes with the heavy metals in hard water. Glyphosate, the researchers determined, is killing farm workers by the thousands.

In El Salvador, CKDu is the second leading cause of death among men. This is a disease that didn’t exist before the introduction of glyphosate. Men who spend their lives working the land in these poor countries are dying for Monsanto.

The researchers say that although glyphosate alone isn’t responsible for CKDu, it has “acquired the ability to destroy the renal tissues of thousands of farmers when it forms complexes with a localized geo environmental factor (water hardness) and nephrotoxic metals.”

Bt toxins are prominent in genetically altered crops such as corn, soy, wheat, and others, called Cry1Ab – and they can be lethal. Not only do these cry-toxins target the kidney cells of developing human fetuses, but when Cry1Ab and Cry1Ac are combined with RoundUp, they can delay apoptosis of human cancer cells.

Connecticut has already passed labeling legislation and Maine’s legislation only awaits the governor’s signature. UPDATE: MAINE PASSES LEGISLATION (SEE VIDEO ABOVE)  Connecticut becomes first state to demand labeling of GMO foods. However, enactment is contingent on 4 northeast states to pass same legislation.

Leaked documents:  Grocery Manufacturers Association pushing legislation after spending millions against state ballot initiatives. Center for Food Safety (CFS) today strongly criticized the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), after Politico revealed the lobbying group intends to carry through with legislation aimed at blocking states from mandating labeling of genetically engineered foods (GMOs). dees-farmer-croppedThe “Plant Reproductive Material Law” regulates all plants. It contains restrictions on vegetables and woodland trees, as well as all other plants of any species. It will be illegal to grow, reproduce, or trade any vegetable seed or tree that has not been been tested and approved by the government, more specifically the “EU Plant Variety Agency.”  Read more…
This agency will be responsible for making a list of approved plants and an annual fee must also be forwarded to the agency if growers would like to keep what they grow on the list. The new law basically puts the government in charge of all plants and seeds in Europe, and prevents home gardeners from growing their own plants from non-regulated seeds.

Breaking News: GMO ‘Suicide Seeds’ (The terminator/exorcist technology) On Edge of Approval in Brazil

brazil_terminator(2)After promising on World Food Day (October 16) to block legislation that would legalize the planting of Terminator seeds in Brazil, the country’s Judicial Commission is set to approve suicide seeds as a Christmas gift to Monsanto, DuPont and Syngenta. Intense internal and external pressure in mid-October forced the Brazilian Congress to pull back from adopting pro-Terminator legislation, and the Judicial Commission’s Chair pledged never to allow legislation while at his post. Now, the same chair will entertain a motion Wednesday to accept Terminator seeds, making Brazil the first country in the world to defy a 13-year-old UN moratorium on the use of the technology. VLA comment:  The USDA co-owns the terminator technology patent.  It is known as the terminator or exorcist.  What audacity to even name them such a blatant evil…perhaps…because they are!   The question I have.  “Will the terminator technology that removes the plant’s ability to reproduce so as to make it easier to sell to farmers without having to enforce written contracts not to plant, terminate nature’s reproductivity of natural, heritage seeds, by accident?”  And further note of interest is the term Suicide Seeds.  It is the same industry (Biotech/pharma) that brings us the drugs that causes suicidal ideation. Suicide for plants and humanity.  So, if you don’t go insane from the drugs…you can starve to death!

VLA comment:  At one time we had a copy of the hearing on GMOs in the early day.  The Hawaiian Islands were posed to the Congress as “most important” to the Biotech companies because it is the place to grow the seed stock.  It will be very interesting to see how this turns out.  So far we can’t find the governor’s response.  HMMM!

 

 

Elsevier (Sinister Evil) Medical Journals : Puts Monsanto as Associate Editor to force retraction of GMO study

antiElsevier3-320x319Fast forward to September 2012, when the scientific journal Food and Chemical Toxicology (FCT) published a study that caused an international storm (Séralini, et al. 2012). The study, led by Prof Gilles-Eric Séralini of the University of Caen, France, suggested a Monsanto genetically modified (GM) maize, and the Roundup herbicide it is grown with, pose serious health risks. The two-year feeding study found that rats fed both suffered severe organ damage and increased rates of tumors and premature death. Both the herbicide (Roundup) and the GM maize are Monsanto products. Corinne Lepage, France’s former environment minister, called the study “a bomb”.

Subsequently, an orchestrated campaign was launched to discredit the study in the media and persuade the journal to retract it. Many of those who wrote letters to FCT (which is published by Elsevier) had conflicts of interest with the GM industry and its lobby groups, though these were not publicly disclosed.

The journal did not retract the study. But just a few months later, in early 2013 the FCT editorial board acquired a new “Associate Editor for biotechnology”, Richard E. Goodman. This was a new position, seemingly established especially for Goodman in the wake of the “Séralini affair”.

Richard E. Goodman is professor at the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program, University of Nebraska. But he is also a former Monsanto employee, who worked for the company between 1997 and 2004. While at Monsanto he assessed the allergenicity of the company’s GM crops and published papers on its behalf on allergenicity and safety issues relating to GM food (Goodman and Leach 2004). Feb. 2012  Monday, the publisher announced it was withdrawing its support of the Research Works Act, a proposed piece of legislation, sponsored by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney that would have dropped the requirement that all publicly funded research be open to the public. Upon hearing the news, US Representatives Darrel Issa  and Carolyn Maloney immediately withdrew the bill, killing it.
