MEXICO FINALLY BANS GMO CORN
According to a local press release, Acción Colectiva [Collective Action] aims to achieve absolute federal declaration of the suspension of the introduction of transgenic maize in all its various forms, including experimental and pilot commercial plantings, in Mexico, “which is the birthplace of corn in the world.”
Just when you think there’s no winning against the biotech industry,news out of Mexico City shows that all is not lost. After years of deliberation,a Mexico judge has placed an indefinite ban on genetically-engineered corn.Effective immediately, companies like Monsanto and DuPont/Pioneer will nolonger be allowed to plant or sell their corn within the country’s borders.

VLA COMMENT: It is about time! I hope it holds. I wonder what the World Trade Organization (WTO) thinks of this move. Will they penalize Mexico for creating a trade barrier? American multinational biotech companies have destroyed Mexico’s great crop resource…CORN…the staple for Mexican food…tortillias, tacos, etc. I hope they can clear out the polluted GMO strains, some how.

Excerpt: The companies are supported by those who say the seed business is vital to the economy. Seeds are Hawaii’s leading agricultural commodity, contributing $264 million to the economy and 1,400 jobs, according to a study commissioned by the companies.
“Almost any corn seed sold in the U.S. touches Hawaii somewhere” in its development, said Mark Phillipson, an executive of Syngenta, a Swiss seed and agrochemical company. Mr. Phillipson is also president of the Hawaii Crop Improvement Association, which represents the seed companies.

O’Leary kept on wanting her to admit that she was against “science” and therefore against saving hurt and starving children all over the world. The whole debate was great, however, when it came to science… and why Monsanto’s science shouldn’t have carte blanche on producing these foods is because GMO crops transfer genes to nature’s time honored organic crops, destroying there integrity. This would have been a good come back reason for “not allowing” science to proceed out of the lab or experimental stage.

Finland considering Anti-GMO track along with other countries

Many farmers did not even know they were using GMO seed, so the search and destroy will likely continue. More than 1000 acres found to have been planted with genetically altered maize crops have been destroyed in Hungary. Standing up to the biotech giants of Monsanto, Dow, and BASF, the country has boldly banned GMO seed. Peru has passed a ban for at least ten years on GM foods, along with Italy, Portugal, Greece, Spain and Austria with their own bans, as well as many other countries. CONNECTICUTT & MAINE: Mandatory GMO labeling passes both houses (JUNE 1013)
Connecticut’s mandatory labeling bill easily passed both the House and the Senate. Governor Dannel Malloy (D) has said he will also sign off on the bill.
However, while the state looks like it will be the first in the country to require labeling of GMOs, it does have stipulations that will take time to allow its passage. To actually go into effect, labeling initiatives must become law in four other states, including one bordering state. New Study Links Monsanto’s Roundup To Autism, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s (Cytochrome P450)
Glyphosate is a major component of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide. Glyphosate was manufactured by Monsanto and is one of the most widely used herbicides around the world. A number of scientific studies surrounding glyphosate have shed light on its effects within the human body. It’s responsible for triggering health problems like gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
When you ingest Glyphosate, you are in essence altering the chemistry of your body. It’s completely unnatural and the body doesn’t resonate with it. P450 (CYP) is the gene pathway disrupted when the body takes in Glyphosate(3). P450 creates enzymes that assist with the formation of molecules in cells, as well as breaking them down. CYP enzymes are abundant and have many important functions. They are responsible for detoxifying xenobiotics from the body, things like the various chemicals found in pesticides, drugs and carcinogens. Glyphosate inhibits the CYP enzymes. The CYP pathway is critical for normal, natural functioning of multiple biological systems within our bodies. Because humans that’ve been exposed to glyphosate have a drop in amino acid tryptophan levels, they do not have the necessary active signalling of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is associated with weight gain, depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
